Frances has three older sisters who all learned to knit as young children. Being the youngest, she missed out on the knitting lessons. As she got older, her sister Jennie taught her how to knit. Frances was not as good as her sisters were and quickly lost interest, eventually losing all her knowledge of knitting. Jennie continued knitting and made beautiful sweaters, and Frances was always excited to receive her hand-me-downs. One summer upon coming home between college semesters, Frances asked Jennie to teach her to knit. She said, "I want to learn to knit, but I don't want to make a scarf! I want to make a sweater!" So, wisely, Jennie re-taught her how to knit starting with a simple sleeveless summer sweater with stripes. She will never forget it. She completed the sweater that summer. She is very thankful to Jennie. Frances developed a great love for knitting, and she has never stopped knitting since.
